Tromler Construction - A Sacramento General Contractor: You saw it on YouTube, you must know more than me!

You saw it on YouTube, you must know more than me!

You saw it on YouTube,

you must know more than me!

I'm sorry that you feel that you have a better understanding of this project than I do, you are going to have to do it without me. It's not that the project isn't worthwhile because it really needs to be done. If you are going to do this without building permits than you will need to find another contractor.

I know that I can bring a lot of knowledge and experience to a home improvement project, many contractors have been through a bunch of jobs and learn. A contractor risks a lot when working on a job that will not have permits through the county or city. By doing a small portion, I may be liable for much more than I bargained for.

The best that I can do is to explain why I can not do this job as it is being done. If nothing changes, I will not be a part of it. If you need the job done right, with permits, I can help. There will be no compromise here.

Too often homeowners watch television or YouTube and feel that this is something anybody can slap together with ease. Unfortunately, experience can show that it is much more than watching someone do it, ordering a bunch of fixtures, and learning as you go. Many times the homeowner is over their head before they realize it. That was the case here.

From what I have seen these DIY folks who watch the video usually create what is called collateral damage - to be repaired by a skilled person later!

Good morning Tom. So very true, some who watch a video  on how to do a repair have all of a sudden become an expert. I see so many of these do it yourself repairs and renovations that all have to be ripped out and start again.

You are so correct here. Often most people have no clue that even some simpler jobs have a farther reach. When I work with my client I always prime them that they need to do the remodels correctly and with permits were required. Often they do not understand that a simple thing like changing a receptacle has a trickle down effect.

Good thing there is a vapor retarder on that insulation so the shower doesn't make the wall wet.

And love the shower head.  I am partial to the singl stream of shower water.

Hi Tom - We're always on the lookout for home improvement projects that have been done without permits - we're going to be asking for them on inspection, and it can get much uglier if the city gets its nose out of joint that they weren't pulled when the work was done.

Good morning Tom.  Just looking at the photo I can tell you without hesitation that is something I would never attempt to even start.
