Carbon Monoxide testing very important and should not be overlooked. Clint shows us some examples of where these leaks can occur. hiring an inspector may be a good idea to help pinpoint these areas and whether or not CO testing is necessary for you.
Carbon Monoxide, furnace testing. Desert Sun Inspections Carlsbad. NM.
Testing a furnace before the start up of the heating season is a really good idea. Especially the gas fired appliances in the home.
The safety of the family is the biggest concern for any parent.
Install a C O detector or service the one in place now.
This is why Desert Sun Inspections offers appliance testing for those gas appliances within the home. Not only within the home but any gas appliance that is used for the home.
Many homes have had a new furnace, range and water heater installed.
Even though the new unit might seem to be running correctly. It is always good practice to have the units inspected and tested.
The average home had from .5 to 5 PPM of CO in the home at any given time. But when the number of CO PPM starts going upwards that's when you will start getting flu like symptoms.
On this recent inspection I did the proper testing of the appliances for the ambient CO PPM and the furnace, water heater and the Range for proper operation and efficiency.
The range and water heater were correct.
But the furnace that was installed in 2009 was not correct. I got an ambient reading in the home of 3 PPM on the initial testing. Pretty normal for a home.
But when I fired up the furnace to test the efficiency, the PPM shot up to 11 PPM.
Take a look at what I found when I inspected this furnace for safety and efficiency.
The furnace stack was stuffed inside an old stack. This is very common among the new furnace installers in this area.
The highest area of C O was coming from the back of the stack that was sealed with metal tape.
Over time the tape will come loose.
You can see the discoloration on the tape.
This stack had been leaking for a long time.
Here is a look at the way the water heater was. the tape is coming off on this unit as well.
Neither of these two units had an approved sticker from the local mechanical inspector's office.
Doe's this mean they did not get a permit back in 2009? Maybe, maybe not.
Now is the time to have your gas appliances tested before winter puts a stress the homes heating system.
Get the inspection completed. If no issues are found then you have the peace of mind that every thing is safe.
If there are issues then have them corrected as soon as possible.
